Insurance and Insight Counseling Collective

While some therapists do accept insurance, it is true that many therapists choose not to work directly with insurance companies. The reasons why Insight Counseling Collective therapists do not accept insurance are:

  1. Reimbursement rates: Insurance companies set reimbursement rates that are lower than our therapist's standard fee. Accepting insurance would make it financially challenging for our therapists to sustain their practice.

  2. Limited coverage: Insurance plans have restrictions on the number of sessions covered, require pre-authorization, or only cover specific diagnoses. This can limit the flexibility and autonomy of our therapists in tailoring treatment to your needs.

  3. Confidentiality concerns: Submitting insurance claims requires sharing clinical information with the insurance company, which can compromise client confidentiality. Insight Counseling Collective prioritizes our clients’ privacy, so we opt for private pay to maintain your privacy.

  4. Therapeutic approach: Some of our therapists practice modalities or approaches that are not covered or recognized by all insurance companies (e.g. couples/relational therapy). By only accepting out-of-packet pay, clients may access the specific type of therapy they desire.

  5. Diagnosis stigma and employment implications: Insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis for coverage and payment. In certain situations, a mental health diagnosis may have implications for employment opportunities, or other legal matters. It's important to be aware of your rights and understand the potential consequences of disclosing a mental health diagnosis. Furthermore, a diagnosis can come with societal stigmas or preconceived notions about mental health conditions. Some individuals may be concerned about being labeled or experiencing negative consequences as a result of their diagnosis. At Insight Counseling Collective, we do not provide diagnosis unless requested by the client.
